Whilst AFL collectors have been fortunate to have 2 different products to collect in the first half of the year with the 2012 AFL Select Champions and the premium release of the 2012 Football Draft Prospects, passionate Rugby League collectors were left out in the cold with only the 2012 NRL Select Champions to collect. Things have now changed with a new product to be released in September 2012 featuring players from the 2012 All-stars, State of Origin and the ANZAC Test Matches. At a glance, this new product is laced with Memorabilia cards, and some key signature cards, which those in the northern states have been crying out for.

The National Rugby League (NRL) has today appointed
ESP Promotions (AUST) (ESP) as the Exclusive Trading,
Game and Collector Card Official Licensee for five years from 2013. ESP’s
appointment is an encouraging development for this important product category
for the NRL, with the sports marketing company committing to adopt an
innovative approach to product design and distribution.
ESP’s first series of NRL Limited Edition Trading Cards
will be released to the collector market in September 2012.
The NRL
Limited Edition 2012 Series will
encompass a premium quality trading card program commemorating the 2012 NRL
Representative Series including the Harvey Norman Rugby League All Stars,
Harvey Norman State of Origin and the ANZAC Test Matches.
The NRL
Limited Edition 2012 Series will include a number of firsts for NRL Trading
Cards including:
- Player
Signed Memorabilia Jersey Cards
- Double
Signature Card
- Redemption
Cards
The NRL Limited Edition 2012 Series will also
include an exclusive redemption card insert offering NRL fans the chance to own
a piece of match used and referee signed memorabilia.
Scott Davidson, ESP Director, was very excited
about the new arrangement and is looking to work with the NRL to rebuild this product
category with clear product, pricing and retail segmentation. “ESP is very excited about
its new licensing relationship with the NRL and is hoping to make a strong
impact across our five year license. We
have many new card offerings that are being built from the ground up with input
from the market and various NRL departments,” he commented.
“There will be something in the range for all Rugby
League supporters and sports collectors with new educational, community and
technology elements all being integrated into the various ranges of trading, game and
collector cards,” he added.
The NRL
Limited Edition 2012 Series will be available from more than 1500 retail
outlets. Further details surrounding the distribution of the NRL Limited Edition 2012 Series and the
expansion plans for the product category in 2013 and beyond will be announced
shortly.
